It’s been nearly a month since the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) opened its complaint window on MahaRERA website, 57 complaints have been registered so far, against developers across the state. According to a senior official most of the complaints were registered against developers in Pune.

The complaint window allows residents of registered projects to file a complaint to RERA authority after they pay fees of ₹ 5000. There were no complaint fees till 31st July for complaints against unregistered projects. Once the complaint details of projects are registered, the respective authority will handle the matter as they see fit, said a RERA official.

The official added that the outcome of the complaint results can result in the termination of registered projects. There could be a fine of up to 5% of the total cost of the project, after which suitable action shall be taken against the developers. In the meantime, 12,750 applications for project registrations were received by MahaRERA authorities from developers all over the state.

A senior RERA official informed that almost 10,500 projects were given registration certificate. The officials have to carefully scrutinize every detail submitted by the developer, so the process will take some more time. The projects shall be approved only after the project details provided by the developers get verified thoroughly. On the other hand, more than 2000 developers got fined for registering their projects post RERA deadline.
