Netflix Rents Two Floors For India HQ In Godrej BKC

Netflix leases 1.5 lakh square feet office space in Godrej BKC from promoters of D’décor Home Fabrics for nine years

Netflix Inc recently rented 1.5 lakh square feet office space in Godrej Properties in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). This will now be their India headquarters. The tenure of the lease is nine years. The promoters of D’décor Home Fabrics are the owners of the two floors rented by Netflix.  

As of now, while sources have confirmed the news, no one from Netflix or D’décor has. The monthly rent will be Rs 265 per square feet per month. The rental agreement also has a clause for 15% rental increase every three years.

Back in 2015, D’décor promoters had bought these two floors for approximately Rs 400 crores from Godrej Properties in 19-storey commercial tower. Some of the building’s other offices include Abbott India, which bought 4.35 lakh square feet of office space for Rs 1,479 crore during the same year as D’décor.

The American streaming giant has tasted big success in India with first original series Sacred Games which starred Bollywood actors Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The company now aims to expand and focus more on providing original creative content for India.

It had a while ago streamed its second original Ghoul, which was a horror miniseries. It’s third original is Selection Day. It has more than 10 original series and movies lined up for its Indian viewers. Netflix’s office till now was in North Avenue, Maker Maxity in BKC. It has more than 40 employees for its Indian operations.

Netflix has its global headquarter in Los Gatos, California. It was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Scotts Valley, California. It entered India two years ago in January 2016 as part of its global rollout. Back then it was registered as a limited liability partnership (LLP). From April last year, it started commissioning content in India and has not looked back since.
