What You Need to Know About Energy Efficient Walls

As expenses are on the rise especially in the urban areas, the use of energy efficient walls in residential as well as commercial spaces is helping to save energy and cut down costs of maintenance to a great extent

One of the most important things that bother homebuyers is the amount of money that is spent on paying utility bills. The consumption of electricity is increasing rapidly due to the extreme climatic changes in most countries of the world. Thus, the need to save energy has become very important for the current generation which can help them save their money and at the same time protect the environment. The use of air conditioners during the summers and electric room heaters during the winters is common but at the same time consumes a lot of energy.

Real estate developers and homebuyers need to know about the various ways in which energy-efficient walls can be built as it offers various advantages to the homeowner. It has been found out that the primary energy consumed by India increased by 7.9 percent last year.

Therefore, it has become important that at the grassroots level, the energy consumed by a household is decreased which can be achieved by using energy-efficient walls.

RealtyNXT summarises the various ways how walls can be built such that it helps save energy.

1. Effective Insulation

The use of air conditioners and room heaters consumes a lot of energy which leads to high electricity bills. By using effective insulation techniques during the construction of the walls of a building, one can reduce their expenses to a great extent. The use of small trapped air cells between the inner walls of the building can keep the temperature inside it consistent even during extreme temperatures. Thermal insulation as well keeps the rooms of the building cooler during the summers and warmer during the winters. It limits the transfer of heat from outside to inside the house and vice versa.

2. Sealing Thoroughly

It is important to seal any holes or cracks in the structure of the building as these gaps can allow cool or warm air to escape easily. It has been found out that around 40 percent of the warm or cool air from the air can leak through the holes or cracks in the wall. Therefore, air sealing must be done in the building to prevent this. Air sealing refers to the process of sealing all the holes and gaps in the structure of the building to create a tight air barrier. Some of the common air sealing materials are caulks, gaskets, house wraps and foams.

3. Efficient Building Materials

The use of efficient building materials can greatly contribute to keeping the building cool or warm. One of the best materials to use while constructing a wall is hollow clay blocks, which is also known as hollow bricks. These bricks help to maintain a consistent temperature inside the rooms or keep it cool during the summers and warm during the winters. Thus in a country like India with an extraordinary variety of climatic regions, the use of hollow bricks can help build an energy-efficient wall.

4. Correct Mechanical Systems

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment are common in most commercial complexes. In most cases, it has been found that the HVAC systems installed in the buildings are bulky and expensive.

It is important to note that to save energy, it is recommended to install smaller and more efficient HVAC systems. This will make sure that the electricity consumed is less and cut down the operating cost of the building structure.

5. Install Efficient Windows

The use of smart glass windows can reduce the heat that enters the rooms of the building in places where the temperature is higher. In places with colder climates, the use of double or triple pane windows with low emissivity coating on the glass of the window can help keep the rooms warm. Thus, using such windows helps reduce the need to have air conditioners or room heaters inside the building which helps save a lot of energy.
