A realtor has been arrested and sent to jail for failing to pay Rs 65 lakh compensation, as directed by a local court in a cheque-bounce case on December 7, 2018.

The accused is Sunny Joseph, a resident of Whitefield and owner of Sunny Developers. Indiranagar police said there was an arrest warrant pending against Sunny for not paying compensation to MV Isaac.

“Isaac had planned to purchase a multi-storeyed residential building from Sunny and paid Rs 50 lakh as advance in 2013. But Sunny failed to give Isaac the building or return the amount. Isaac had deposited security cheques given by Sunny and filed a case after they bounced,” a police officer said.

The 57th additional chief metropolitan magistrate court found Sunny guilty and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000. The court directed him to pay Rs 65 lakh compensation to Isaac.

The court said Sunny would undergo one-year simple imprisonment if he failed to pay.
