“We need to consider land use in Munnar as a separate case. Government is not averse to holding discussions on other problems, with regard to land utilization, in the rest of the district,” Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government was ready to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the hardships of Idukki residents, with regard to the restrictions on land use. Munnar, being an ecologically-sensitive area, needed special consideration, he said.

“We need to consider land use in Munnar as a separate case. Government is not averse to holding discussions on other problems, with regard to land utilization, in the rest of the district,” he said.

The chief minister was replying to an adjournment motion by the opposition, seeking immediate action to repeal the restrictions imposed in construction activities in Idukki.

A timely amendment in Land Assignment Rules (1964) was necessary for a permanent solution to the restrictions faced by residents, said MLA PJ Joseph.
