Pune corporation will conduct a lottery in January to allocate about 2,200 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana in January.

It would be the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s first lottery for the houses under the scheme in areas like Vadgaon, Hadapsar and Kharadi.

“The civic administration has completed the process of allotting permission for the constructions. Some projects have started on the ground. Now, the beneficiaries will get the houses. The allotment process will be completed after the lottery,” said Rajendra Raut, the superintending engineer of the PMC’s building permission department.

Raut said the lottery would be held in a month’s time. The selected candidates would be told to make payments for the homes. The funds thus raised would be used for completing the projects.

The civic body plans to build a total of 6,500 houses under the Prime Minister Aawas Yojana (PMAY). Another 8,000 houses would be built in partnership with private builders.

The PMC has appointed a private consultancy firm to look after the construction of houses under the PMAY. It would charge 1.56% of the total project cost. The responsibilities like monitoring the quality of construction and raw material, structural stability and other important factors regarding the projects would be shouldered by the consultant.

The Union government has launched PMAY for providing housings to the needy.
