We design all our projects with passion and panache and try to make sure that all our work reflects our design philosophy, say Disha Bhavsar and Shivani Ajmera, Founders, Quirk Studio.

Quirk Studio is an Interior Design Company co-founded by Disha Bhavsar and Shivani Ajmera in 2013. Their design philosophy is finding simplicity in clutter and to create in order to inspire.

Quirk Studio’s goal is for its designs to have the power to transport you into another world, allow you to dream and most importantly, evoke an emotional response.

Armed with degrees from the University of South Hampton and Florence Design Academy, the two founders bring in combined professional experience from firms like Talati & Panthaky, RED Architects and Milind Pai Architects. Read on for excerpts of the interview.

1. What’s Quirk Studio’s design philosophy?

Quirk studio’s design style is contemporary. We craft spaces that reflect our design philosophy and style, using different textures, colours and eclectic elements. Our design philosophy is driven by tour passion towards creating chic yet sophisticated spaces that resonate with our client’s preferences.

Innovative and experimental, the firm’s portfolio is a curation of projects that best exemplify the notion of bespoke concepts and design – each unique in their expression, yet uniformly vibrant and welcoming. With a focus on tactility of materials and subtle shifts of mood through strategic décor planning.

2. Tell us about your approach towards the projects that you design?

At Quirk Studio, we work closely with our clients to understand their expectations and most importantly to create spaces that tell their story. We believe that the soul of a space lies in its details and that a well-designed space should have the power to transport you to into another world. Our persistent effort to design spaces that blend harmoniously with their environment is what sets us apart in our field of work.

3. Which is that one signature style of yours that you incorporate in your designs?

We try to design each space with an exclusive tonality keeping in mind the requirements of that particular project. However, we are trying to move towards sustainable architecture by inculcating eco-friendly elements into our designs. We are trying to create a niche in the segment by crafting projects that are high on design elements while still being sustainable.

4. What is the most challenging part of designing someone’s home?

The most challenging part of designing someone’s home is to understand and anticipate the client’s vision and desires.  It is imperative not only to design a space that reflects that client’s story and personality but also one that pushes the envelope in terms of design. We try to merge our design philosophy with the client’s to give life to prodigious projects.

5. How is technology helping you deliver better outcomes? Which tools and software so you and your team use the most?

Technology is most crucial for any design firm to accurately put designs to paper. We use AutoCAD, 3D Max, and Adobe Photoshop extensively at Quirk Studio.

6. Which project of yours is your favourite? Can our readers get a glimpse of it?

We design all our projects with passion and panache and try to make sure that all our work reflects our design philosophy.  One of our most interesting projects has to be the office with a view, a plush commercial space nestled in the suburb of Juhu.

It is an eclectic and unique space amidst the bustle of Mumbai. The client wanted a space that is premium, luxurious, contemporary yet modern and minimal in design. He also wanted a section within the same office for his two daughters running their respective businesses.

The brief for the daughter’s offices was to add a feminine touch to their space, through furniture, colours and material. With both briefs being distinct, an approach to design the overall office as two separate spaces was adopted with a modern contemporary design style that would seamlessly tie all the spaces together.
